Flipkart bullish on Big Billion Days, expects nearly 300 million visitors
E-commerce major Flipkart is betting on its flagship festive sale, The Big Billion Days (TBBD), and expects 250- 300 million visitors during the sale. For the whole festive season, Flipkart projects 350 million, which Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO of Flipkart, says is twice the size of IPL.
Speaking at the kick-off ceremony of TBBD, Hemant Badri, Senior VP & Head of Minutes, Supply Chain, Customer Experience & Re-Commerce, Flipkart Group, said the company has observed 25 per cent growth in transacting sellers in the last six months, across all categories.
Pratik Shetty, Vice President, Growth & Marketing, Flipkart, said early bird deals rolled out ahead of TBBD have already shown a sharp uptick in demand, particularly in fashion, beauty and personal care, home products and electronics accessories.
A key driver this season is the surge in Gen Z shoppers, now the largest cohort of organic app visitors, surpassing millennials for the first time. The company says the Gen Z cohort leads on-app customer visits, with September witnessing 55 per cent y-o-y growth in organic visits.
Minutes as a lever of growth
Flipkart is also sharpening focus on its quick commerce arm, Flipkart Minutes, which has expanded to 21 cities with over 400 dark stores. The company said 70–80 per cent of mobile and electronics deliveries in these cities during BBD will be fulfilled through Minutes, underlining its role as a growth lever beyond metros, said Badri.
The company expects GST rate cuts on categories like appliances to further spur purchases, as consumer visits to those product pages have risen ahead of the festive season. For categories like fashion and beauty, where prices are already down, demand is seeing immediate traction.
