GM investing $250 million in Parma Metal Center
PARMA, Ohio — General Motors (GM) recently announced a $250 million investment in its Parma Metal Center in Ohio.
The upgrade enabling production of sheet metal stampings and assemblies is a direct result of GM’s commitment to expand U.S. production capacity and complements efforts to strengthen the company’s domestic supply chain.
“That’s huge for GM local here in Parma, for the UAW workers and families and for us as a city, obviously,” Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter said. “That plant is iconic. We are tethered to it as a GM town.
“We only purchase GM products, whether that’s in our police department, fire department, service department. My own personal vehicle is a GMC Acadia, so we take great pride in having that plant here.”
In terms of contributing taxes to the city, the mayor said GM is one of Parma’s top three employers.
“That’s so vital for us to go buy new police cruisers, buy a new ambulance, be able to cut grass in our parks, fund personnel and try to provide a good quality of life to our residents with great services,” he said.
Parma Metal Center has the capacity to produce over 100 million parts annually.
Its manufacturing capabilities include metal stamping and processes more than 400 tons of steel daily, producing parts for most of GM’s North American-built products.
GM stressed the Parma Metal Center is equipping team members with the knowledge and tools they need to work alongside advanced technology and equipment.
Further, the company’s comprehensive approach to workforce development — from continued learning opportunities, investments in STEM/STEAM education and apprenticeship programs — is also helping provide opportunities for tomorrow’s career seekers.
“Our commitment to Parma Metal Center isn’t just about upgrading equipment — it’s about investing in the people who make it all happen,” said GM Senior Vice President of Global Manufacturing Mike Trevorrow in a press release.
“Our manufacturing teams are the driving force behind GM’s success, and we’re committed to giving them the tools and training they need to excel in today’s advanced manufacturing world. When we invest in our workforce, we’re not only building great vehicles — we’re helping secure the future of American manufacturing.”
