When the Dallas Cowboys shipped off their superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, the NFL world was shocked, to say the least.

While there was clear animosity between the two sides, nobody thought that Dallas would actually trade the former Penn State pass rusher, let alone to a vaunted NFC rival.
Now, the former Nittany Lion is a Packer, but one NFL insider believes Jerry Jones and company missed out on creating a “Deshaun Watson-style” bidding war for Parsons’ services.
Mike Florio Believes Jerry Jones Should’ve Taken a Page out of Nick Caserio’s Book
Three years ago, Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson requested a trade, which would eventually be granted.
Leading up to the trade, Texans general manager Nick Caserio created a bidding war between the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, and his eventual team, the Cleveland Browns.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk believes the Cowboys were capable of doing the same with Parsons, but failed to do so.
“It’s a simple proposition. If they were going to trade Parsons, they should have made it known in early March that he would be available.” Wrote Florio.
“While it’s hard to imagine Parsons getting more than the compensation package he received from the Packers, the Cowboys would have gotten more than a 2026 and 2027 first-round pick and a soon-to-be 30-year-old defensive tackle who has made the Pro Bowl three times in nine seasons.”
It’s impossible to know for sure what the Cowboys could’ve gotten if they had shopped their former Penn State star earlier in the offseason, but to Florio’s point, there definitely would’ve been more teams equipped with the cap space and draft capital to make a trade in March than there were in August.
