Kellie for President? Double Olympic Gold medalist opens up on retirement plans
Double Olympic Gold medalist Kellie Harrington has opened up on her retirement plans, and whether a bid for Áras could be in the pipeline.
The Portland row boxer hung up her gloves last year after retaining her Gold medal at the Paris Olympic games.
Now, having turned 35 years old and retired from boxing, could Kellie run for the Presidential elections later this year?
‘I HAVE NO CLUE’
Appearing on Oliver Callan’s Radio 1 show on Monday, Oliver noted that she was ‘eligible’ to run having turned 35 years old.
‘I have no clue how to go for President’s role, but lookit,’ the Dublin native chuckled, ‘I’m the President of Dublin 1, and that’s all that matters, really.’
Kellie followed up to note that should would ‘love to live in his gaff, though.’
‘Imagine living up there,’ she gasped, ‘The dogs would have an absolute ball up there.’
The 35-year-old then went onto recall her visit to Áras an Uachtarain last year, following on from the Olympic Games.
‘After Paris, we were all invited up,’ she said, ‘They’ve some nice food.
‘The cakes they had were unreal!’
HIGH PERFORMANCE GIG?
Oliver went on to delve further into Kellie’s retirement plans, asking if she would take up a high-performance gig within Sport Ireland or something similar.
Noting that she had yet to be approached regarding something along those lines, Kellie admitted she ‘would definitely explore it.’
‘At the moment, I’d love to have some kind of coffee shop, I love bringing people together,’ she revealed, ‘I’d love to bring out a tea brand.
‘Kellie’s Tea. Two sips and your hooked or like, Kellie’s Tea: There’s a real punch to it.’
‘You have thought a lot about this,’ Oliver noted, with Kellie explaining there was a lot of time on her hands between contests at the Olympics.
