LeBron James' retirement plans get unexpected update
LeBron James may not be retiring yet.
But when he does, the Lakers superstar has a chance at a post-playing career choice that not everyone will see coming.
Front Office Sports reports that James could join Amazon Prime’s new NBA coverage.
“The 40-year-old James humorously teased retirement in a new “What’s Next?” commercial for Prime Day 2025 from July 8–11,” Michael McCarthy of FOS writes. “James (who drew rave reviews for his costarring role in the 2015 comedy Trainwreck) collaborated closely with Prime on creating the 60-second commercial, from brainstorming comedic bits to picking Phil Collins hit ‘In the Air Tonight’ for his lounge-singer spoof.”
James, along with that relationship, has spoken positively about Prime’s upcoming NBA coverage.
“I think Amazon Prime Video, they’re going to do a great job showcasing our sport; [the talent] love(s) our sport,” James said. “Great intellect, great commentary, great insight — I really look forward to that. And like I said, those guys that have signed up for it, they’re going to do great things.”

LeBron will be a coveted asset whenever he decides to retire.
All indications are that it won’t happen this year, but already at 40 years old, his end is coming sooner rather than later.
The King on television? Hey, Michael Jordan is joining NBC’s coverage, so why not get LeBron on a rival network? He’s already got his mightily successful podcast.
It’ll certainly be something all the TV executives want to see happen.
