Lincoln-Sudbury reaps dividends from its midseason adjustment in a Division 1 girls’ soccer win over Woburn
The trio combined for all four goals as No. 15 Lincoln-Sudbury downed No. 18 Woburn, 4-0, in a first-round tournament clash. The Warriors (11-7-1) will play No. 2 Wellesley (15-3-1) at a date and time to be announced.
“They’re a really special group, really technical from front to back,” said Wentworth. “They never let up. If a team does that, you can’t even catch your breath to try and compete. I really give them credit for going out there and having their best game in the biggest game of the season.”
Alexa, a sophomore, opened the scoring just 10 minutes in, finishing a cross from her sister.

“I thought Ella [Ryan] was going to cross it, but when [Averie] got it and I was right there, I was just placing it,” said Alexa.
Morrissey made her tenacious presence felt in the second half. Two minutes after the break, Morrissey dispossessed a defender before pinging a blast off the crossbar and in from 20 yards out for a truly spectacular goal. Twenty-three minutes later, she added her second goal, getting her body on a corner kick from Averie.
“Inside the box, I’m pretty tough and it’s easy for me to get on that ball and score so it worked out well,” said Morrissey.
Averie, committed to Boston University, capped off her two assist performance with a goal of her own, blasting a strike from the right side of the box off the crossbar and in.
“I was thinking the whole game that I was really close,” Averie said. “I hit the crossbar earlier. Last home game, I really wanted to score. A girl came, I saw an opening and hit it.”
Freshman center back Eva Martinelli stabilized a backline that was terrific all game. Wentworth was proud of his team’s performance.
