Major Indexes Set to Close Out First Half With Gains
The first half of the year wraps up today, and the big three indexes are still chugging along.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 4.2%, which would be its best first-half performance since 2021 when it rose 12.7%, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
The S&P 500 is up more than 15.3%, but it’s a touch below last year’s first-half gain of 15.9%.
The Nasdaq Composite is up nearly 20%, but it will need to top 31.7% to beat the mark it set last year.
Growth has continued to crush value this year. The S&P 500 Growth Index is beating the S&P 500 Value Index by 19.6 percentage points this year, according to Dow Jones Market Data. That’s the best outperformance since the first half of 2020, when growth beat value by 24 percentage points. It is the second-largest first-half outperformance on record.
