Man arrested for illegal cryptocurrency transactions worth over Rs 7.8 million
Police seize mobile phone and SIM cards; further investigation underway
KATHMANDU, AUGUST 4
The District Police Range, Kathmandu, has arrested a man for his alleged involvement in illegal cryptocurrency trading amounting to more than Rs 7.8 million.
According to police, 21-year-old Sushant Dahal, a permanent resident of Sisapani, Hetauda-16, currently living in Kaushaltar, Madhyapur Thimi-3, was arrested on August 2 at around 6:00 pm from Kalanki, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14. Police acted on a tip-off that illegal crypto currency trading was being conducted at the location.
Dahal has been accussed of conducting illegal transactions using digital currencies such as USDT, BTC, ETH, and BNB, violating Nepal’s laws that prohibit cryptocurrency trading.
Police recovered one mobile phone and two SIM cards from his possession during the operation.
Further investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of the transactions and possible involvement of other individuals in the illegal activity, police added.
