Australia’s largest companies are inching closer to 40 per cent women on their boards, according to an Australian Institute of Company Directors gender diversity snapshot.
The larger companies tend to have more diversity on their boards, with the ASX 100 companies sitting at 39.3 per cent, the ASX 200 at 38.1 per cent women on boards and the top 300 companies at 37.5 per cent.
Australia is one of only three countries to reach 30 per cent female board representation without the use of legislated quotas.
However, while more women are joining boards, their representation in leadership roles like chief executive or chair remains disproportionately low.
Of the 805 board seats currently held by women in the ASX 300, most are in non-executive roles.
The ASX 200 companies with the highest percentage of women on their boards are:
- 1.Woolworths Group (67%)
- 2.Macquarie Group (63%)
- 3.Boss energy Ltd (60%)
- 4.CSL Limited (60 %)
- 5.Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited (60%)
While no ASX 200 companies have all-male boards, some still have only one woman.
They include companies such as WiseTech Global, GrainCorp, Austral, Yancoal Australia and Vault Minerals.
