Minot Intermodal Facility navigates ongoing trade war with China
MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – Last week we brought you inside the Minot Intermodal Facility, which helps producers and processors ship their commodities to places around the world.
Like other parts of the supply chain, they’re also adjusting to the trade war with China and its impact on soybeans.
Rail Modal Group, a logisitics business based in New York, runs the Minot facility.
Founder Greg Oberting said China typically purchases 50% of U.S. exported soybeans.
He said that country’s embargo on our soybeans has their company looking at different markets.
“We have targeted markets that are lower volume markets, but still have value back to the producer— places like Vietnam, places like Thailand, places like Indonesia,” said Oberting.
Oberting added that looking to other markets creates a way for producers to still sell their commodities.
He said these other markets use the beans for things like tofu and tempe.
