Portion of a wall collapses at Broad Street Market building in Harrisburg
A section of a wall at the Broad Street Market’s brick building, which is under construction following a fire, collapsed this morning.
Mayor Wanda Williams’ spokeswoman Mischelle Moyer said a large portion of a side wall fell while crews were working at the site along North Sixth Street in Harrisburg.
“No one was injured, but it proved the building to be unstable,” Moyer said via email.
She noted the mayor is meeting today with Broad Street Market advisers to assess the situation and decide the next steps.
Rebuilding efforts at the building, which was heavily damaged by fire in July 2023, have been underway since September.
This fall, Harrisburg City Council approved a $14.4 million budget allocation for the reconstruction project. The additional money increased the city’s total allocation to $19 million toward the project’s estimated $23.1 million price tag.
The brick building is expected to reopen by May 2027.
