Putin interested in Trump economy: US President as he departs for Alaska for crucial meet
US President Donald Trump on Friday departed Washington aboard Air Force One for a crucial meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, where talks are expected to focus on a possible ceasefire deal for Ukraine, as reported by the news agency Reuters.
Before leaving, Trump said, “He (Putin) is interested in the Trump economy.” The President added, “If we make progress, I will discuss it,” referring to potential business engagement with Russia. However, he made it clear, “They are not doing business until they get the war stopped.”

Trump signalled optimism about the talks, saying, “Something is going to come of it.” On Ukraine’s territorial issues, he said, “Ukraine has to decide territory.”
Addressing the ongoing attacks in Russia’s war in Ukraine, Trump remarked, “Putin thinks that gives him strength in talks, I think it hurts him.” He further added, “I think they’re trying to negotiate.”
The US President also cautioned, “There could be severe consequences,” when asked about potential outcomes of the meeting.
Trump is accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, along with other top aides.
“High stakes!!!” Trump wrote on his social media platform shortly before departing the White House for the high-profile trip.
