Record chase on stock market: Nvidia, briefly most valuable company ever
On Thursday, Nvidia was temporarily worth more than any other company before it. This was reported by the news agency Reuters, adding that the stock market value of the chip company fell below Apple’s previous record once again over the course of the trading day. Nevertheless, the record is likely to fall for good soon, as Wall Street remains optimistic about the further development of AI, from which Nvidia in particular is benefiting. Nvidia was briefly worth over 3.92 trillion US dollars, compared to 3.89 trillion at the close of trading. Apple’s previous record is therefore USD 3.915 trillion and dates back to Boxing Day 2024.
Steep rise since the “bloodbath” at the beginning of April
The record run on the stock markets comes just three months after the veritable “bloodbath” at the beginning of April, when Donald Trump announced comprehensive tariffs and pushed share prices deep into the red. Nvidia’s stock market value had plummeted to 2.3 trillion US dollars at the time, but has since recovered. In principle, nothing has changed in the tariff plans; the US government has merely suspended them and negotiations with other countries are progressing slowly. Trade agreements have only been concluded with the UK and Vietnam, while an escalation with China has been prevented for now.
Nvidia is benefiting from the expectation that numerous additional data centers for AI technology will be built, which will primarily be equipped with Nivida technology. In terms of market capitalization, the Group is now well ahead of Microsoft again and is on its way to becoming the first company with a market value of more than four trillion US dollars. It was only seven years ago that Apple was the first company to exceed the one trillion US dollar mark, and the iPhone company was also the first to reach two and three trillion US dollars. In terms of market capitalization, however, Apple is currently only in third place with around 3.2 trillion US dollars, behind Microsoft (3.7 trillion US dollars).
