Following Rohit Sharma’s blistering hundred, the batter’s childhood coach, Dinesh Lad, made a big reveal and said that the veteran will play the 2027 World Cup and retire after that. “The way Rohit batted today and how he contributed to India’s win — it felt great to watch the match. He will play the 2027 ODI World Cup and retire after that,” Dinesh Lad was quoted as saying by Times Of India.
Virat Kohli started the series with two back-to-back ducks, facing a make or break situation in Sydney, and he came out with flying colours, displaying vintage Kohli in a chase. Dinesh Lad lauded Kohli and said he is someone who can thrive anytime and anywhere, and expressed delight at the veterans’ return to form.
“He is someone who can thrive anytime and anywhere. The way he played today, it feels good. Sachin had said in a function way back that Rohit and Virat would be the players who would break his records.
Big Test Awaits Rohit-Kohli
Rohit and Kohli will return to team India for the ODI series against South Africa in November. The big Test for the veterans will be to retain the form they showed in Australia. Rohit and Kohli will only play a handful of ODIs a year, having retired from the other two formats, and it will be very important for them to perform well from the first game itself. If they are taking a couple of games to get into the groove, then runs in the final ODI won’t matter much.
