Social Security is issuing checks for $2,000 on average on Wednesday, Aug. 13: discover who gets a payment
After a longer-than-usual wait this month, millions of U.S. seniors who claim Social Security retirement benefits are set to receive their latest payment next week.
On Wednesday, August 13, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is due to distribute the next round of checks on its payment schedule for this month.
Next Wednesday’s Social Security distribution date will also see checks sent out to recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor benefits.
Who’s receiving a Social Security check on August 13?
Of the roughly 70 million Americans who claim retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits, most are paid on one of three Wednesdays each month.
A recipient’s designated Wednesday is decided by the date of birth of the worker whose Social Security taxes have accumulated the benefits entitlement.
On August 13, the SSA is to issue checks to beneficiaries whose birthday falls on the 1st to the 10th of each month.
Weds. payment schedule – Aug. 2025:
- Weds., Aug. 13: Recipients born on 1st to 10th
- Weds., Aug. 20: Recipients born on 11th to 20th
- Weds., Aug. 27: Recipients born on 21st to 31st

Who is paid outside the three-Wednesdays timeline?
- Some long-term Social Security recipients
If you began claiming retirement benefits, SSDI or survivor pay before May 1997, your check typically goes out on the third of each month, regardless of your date of birth.
However, because August 3 was a Sunday, this payment date was brought forward to the nearest working day: Friday, August 1.
- SSI beneficiaries
Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) – a separate SSA program for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability – are paid on the first of each month (unless it’s a holiday or weekend day).
As a result, August’s SSI benefits were also scheduled to be sent out on Friday 1.
- Dual beneficiaries (SSI + regular Social Security)
Over 2.5 million people in the U.S. receive both SSI and one of the SSA’s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits.
These recipients typically get the former on the first of each month and the latter on the third. But, as August 3 was a Sunday, they received both on the first.
Non-Weds. recipients: Aug. 2025
- SSI beneficiaries: Fri., Aug. 1
- Pre-May ’97 Social Sec. recipients: Fri., Aug 1
- Dual beneficiaries: Both paid on Fri., Aug 1
