Social Security is making payments of $2,000 on average on Wednesday, July 16: find out who gets a check
In the United States, many senior citizens on Social Security retirement benefits are due to receive their next monthly payment in just under a week’s time.
On Wednesday, July 16, the U.S.’s Social Security Administration (SSA) is to send out the next round of checks on this month’s distribution schedule.
The payment run will also benefit recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor pay.
Who gets a Social Security check on Wednesday, July 16?
Of the nearly 70 million recipients of retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits in the U.S., most get their money on one of three Wednesdays each month.
Each beneficiary’s designated Wednesday is decided by their date of birth.
On July 16, the SSA is scheduled to make benefits payments to recipients whose birthday falls between the 11th and the 20th of each month. This is the second of the agency’s Wednesday payments for July; the first was yesterday.
Wednesday payment schedule – July 2025:
- Weds., July 9: Recipients born on 1st to 10th
- Weds., July 16: Recipients born on 11th to 20th
- Weds., July 23: Recipients born on 21st to 31st
Who is paid outside of the three-Wednesdays timeline?
- Certain long-term Social Security recipients
If you started receiving retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits before May 1997, your payment is typically issued on the third of each month, irrespective of your date of birth.
For these long-term beneficiaries, therefore, the July payment date was Thursday 3rd.
- SSI recipients
Beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) – a separate SSA scheme for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability – are normally paid their benefits on the first of each month.
As a result, July’s SSI money was due to be sent out on Tuesday last week.
- Dual beneficiaries (SSI + regular Social Security)
Just over 2.5 million Americans receive both SSI and one of the SSA’s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits. These beneficiaries are paid the former on the first of the month and the latter on the third of the month.
Non-Wednesday recipients: July 2025 payments
- Tues., July 1: SSI recipients
- Thurs, July 3: Regular Social Sec. recipients since pre-May 1997
If a dual recipient: SSI paid on 1st, regular Social Security paid on 3rd
