Social Security payment date will be different for some recipients to start 2025
Those who receive Social Security payments will see a bit of a change to their regularly scheduled payments for the first couple months of 2025. In particular, those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive their first payment of 2025 this Tuesday, the final day of 2024.
That’s because New Year’s Day falls on a Wednesday this year, and because banks will be closed that day, payments will be sent out a day earlier than the typical payment date of the first of each month. SSI recipients will receive their February payment on Jan. 31, 2025 as well because Feb. 1 falls on a Saturday. That will again be the case for the March payment, which will come on Friday, Feb. 28.
For those who do not receive SSI, but receive Social Security benefits each month, they will not see any major changes to their payment dates until May.
In that case, those who receive both SSI and Social Security benefits or who have been receiving payments since before May 1997, you will continue to receive your Social Security payment on the third day of each month. However, May’s payment will come on May 2, because the typical payment date falls on a Saturday.
Social Security benefits are paid out on a schedule where people born on the 1st and 10th of each month are paid on the second Wednesday of the month. Those born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday, while those born between the 21st and 31st are paid on the fourth Wednesday.
