Social Security recipients to receive $59 more monthly starting in April
Millions of Social Security recipients across the United States can expect a modest increase in their monthly payments beginning in April 2025, part of the ongoing adjustments linked to cost-of-living changes.
The April payments will reflect the 3.2% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) announced in late 2024, aimed at helping retirees and other beneficiaries keep pace with rising inflation. Though the increase took effect with January benefits, many new beneficiaries and those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will notice the full adjustment in their April disbursements.
When Will April 2025 Social Security Payments Arrive?
The exact payment date depends on a beneficiary’s birthdate:
- If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of the month, payment will arrive Wednesday, April 9.
- Birthdays between the 11th and 20th will see payments on Wednesday, April 16.
- Those born between the 21st and 31st will receive benefits on Wednesday, April 23.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries already received their April payment early—on Friday, March 28—because the usual April 1 distribution falls on a weekend.
What’s the Social Security Boost Worth?
The 3.2% COLA translates to about $59 more per month for the average retiree, raising the typical Social Security check to around $1,907. While smaller than the historic increases of the past two years, the bump offers continued support as essentials like groceries, housing, and medical care remain high.

For those relying on monthly benefits, the increase is a welcomed—if modest—relief. “Every little bit counts,” said Maria Jenkins, a 72-year-old retiree in Ohio. “I’m just glad it’s not going down.”
