Some Social Security recipients are getting three checks in May: find out who

Beneficiaries of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) scheme, which makes monthly payments to Americans who have little to no income and are over 65 or have a disability, are to receive two checks in May.
SSI money is normally distributed on the first of each month, but as June begins on a Sunday, next month’s check is to be paid on the nearest working day before then.
SSI beneficiaries are therefore scheduled to get their June check on Friday, May 30, having already been paid this month’s benefits on Thursday, May 1.

Among the 7.4 million SSI beneficiaries in the U.S., there are some who also receive Social Security money by concurrently claiming retirement benefits, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or survivor pay.
Americans who receive both SSI and retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits were to be be paid the latter on Friday, May 2, in addition to receiving the former on the first and the 30th.
You can take a look at the full Social Security payment calendar for 2025 on the SSA website.
How much money is paid to SSI recipients per month?
According to the latest figures published by the SSA, beneficiaries of the SSI program are currently paid $717.87 a month on average.
The SSA says the top monthly SSI check for an individual claimant is $967. Eligible couples can receive a maximum of $1,450 per month, while there are also checks of up to $484 a month for an essential person.
The agency says some SSI recipients may be eligible for a additional payment from their state, depending on where they live in the U.S. You’ll find details on which states offer this supplemental money on the SSA website.
