Speciality Restaurants to invest ₹100 cr to expand Bengal footprint
Kolkata: Speciality Restaurants Ltd, which owns multiple restaurant chains in India and abroad, has drawn up a road map for expansion in Bengal. It is set to open new outlets in Salt Lake, Rajarhat, Alipore, Durgapur, Siliguri and Darjeeling over the next two years.
The company will invest around Rs 100 crore for the expansion of its business under different brands in Bengal, its chairman and managing director Anjan Chatterjee said.The brands owned by the company include Mainland China, Oh! Calcutta, Asia Kitchen by Mainland China, Sigree, Riyasat, Café Mezzuna, Haka and Flame and Grill among others.
Chatterjee had started the company in 1992 when he opened the first restaurant in Mumbai. Currently, the company has 38 outlets in Kolkata.
“As per plans, we are going to open two restaurant-cum-bars in Salt Lake in the next six months. We have also planned to open two other outlets in Rajarhat by next year. A new mall is coming up at Alipore where we will open three more outlets,” Chatterjee told TOI.
While the brands of the upcoming outlets in the city are yet to be finalized, the company is planning to expand in the districts with the brand Haka. All the upcoming outlets will be restaurant-cum-bars.
Asked about expansion plans outside Bengal, Chatterjee said: “By 2026, we are coming up with four outlets in Mumbai, three in Delhi and two in Bengaluru and Chennai each. Besides, we are also planning to open a Mainland China outlet in London.”
In Bengal, the company is also running a captive training centre in Salt Lake where school dropouts from rural parts of the state are groomed to work in the hospitality industry.
“We skill them and then absorb them in our company. In the state, we have such workforce of 400-500 people. Bengal supplies 50%-60% of the manpower for the hospitality segment,” he said.
