Stock market holiday calendar for 2025: BSE, NSE to remain shut on these 14 days
Indian stock exchanges, the BSE and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) had announced the official trading holiday calendar for 2025 earlier in the month of December, consisting of 14 days throughout the year when trading will be suspended on both exchanges.
The holiday distribution across the months is as follows: February, May, November, and December each observe one trading holiday. March and August will each have two market closures, while April and October will have the highest number of holidays, with three each.
The first market closure of 2025 is scheduled for February 26th, on account of Mahashivratri. In March, trading will be halted on the 14th for Holi and again on the 31st for Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid). April will see three holidays: Shri Mahavir Jayanti on April 10th, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14th, and Good Friday on April 18th. Maharashtra Day will be observed on May 1st, resulting in a market holiday.
It should also be noted that the stock market will remain open on February 1, on the Budget Day, in order to ensure investor access and timely reactions to Budget announcements.
Trading hours on February 1 are expected to follow the regular market timings to ensure a smooth operation.
Further, the markets will remain closed for Independence Day on August 15th and for Ganesh Chaturthi on August 27th. October has the most holidays, with Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra being observed on October 2nd, followed by Diwali Laxmi Pujan on October 21st, and Diwali Balipratipada on October 22nd. Notably, Muhurat Trading, a special auspicious trading session conducted during Diwali, will be held on October 21st. The specific timings for this session will be announced closer to the date. Also read: Sensex & Nifty in 2025: Predictions, targets, must-have stocks for the new year
Several public holidays in 2025 coincide with weekends. Republic Day (January 26th), Shri Ram Navami (April 6th), and Muharram (July 6th) all fall on Sundays, while Bakri Id falls on Saturday, June 7th. Since these dates already fall on non-trading days, they do not impact the stock market’s operational schedule.
Investors and market participants take note of these trading holidays to manage their trading activities efficiently. The complete and detailed holiday calendar is available on the official websites of the BSE and NSE.
