Trump’s tariff warning: US President Donald Trump has once again taken aim at India’s high tariffs, particularly in the auto sector, where duties reportedly exceed 100%. Addressing Congress, he announced that from April 2, the US will impose reciprocal tariffs, matching India’s levies. He also indicated at additional trade barriers if American companies face restrictions in India.
Bond Market selloff hits Asia: A sharp bond market selloff rattled Asia, with Japan’s 10-year yield surging to 1.5% – a level last seen in 2009 amid inflation concerns. The downturn, sparked by heavy selling in German bunds, sent US Treasury yields higher for the third consecutive session, nearing 4.3%. Bond yields in Australia and New Zealand also saw a significant uptick. Meanwhile, Asian equities found some relief from the delay in certain US tariffs on Mexico and Canada.
US markets: US stock markets closed higher on Wednesday, with the Nasdaq Composite surging 1.46% to 18,552.73. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.14% to close at 43,006.59, while the S&P 500 advanced 1.12% to settle at 5,842.63.

“A positive opening could be seen for local markets in view of overnight recovery in US markets and subsequent gains in the Asian region amid reports the Trump presidential administration is considering a one-month delay for including automakers in freshly-imposed tariffs. Apart from potential Trump tariff, the theme also revolves around WTI Crude-oil prices flirting with its 6-month low at $65.60 a barrel. Amidst the fragile recovery, investors will brace for the US jobs report to trickle in this Friday,” said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities.
