Stock Market News Today: Dow Futures Rising
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite set fresh intraday records on Friday as the market cruised in the absence of major earnings or economic updates.
The market benchmark was up 0.4%, hitting a fresh high of 6389.87. The Nasdaq rose 0.4% and traded as high as 21,159.80. The Dow, up 106 points, or 0.2%, was still in the hole it dug on Thursday as the blue-chip index climbed back toward its Dec. 4 record close of 45,014.04.
The S&P 500 was on track to mark closing highs every day this week—which would be the first time the index has done so since November 2021, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The Nasdaq was on track to close at a record for the ninth day in 10 sessions.
The major indexes have sailed through the heart of earnings season this week. A wave of trade deals also boosted stocks ahead of an Aug. 1 deadline for many of President Donald Trump’s global tariffs.
The S&P is on track for its second weekly gain in a row at 1.5%, while the Nasdaq is up 1.3%. The Dow is up 470 points, or 1.1% this week, which would snap a two-week losing streak.
