Tesla stock hits all-time high amid driverless robotaxi tests

Tesla stock riding higher, briefly touching an all-time high. Company getting a boost amid positive developments in its robo taxi business and Yahoo Finance’s Pras Subramanian joins me here with the very latest Pras.
00:15 Pras
Yeah, you know, the stock really really really bouncing higher here today and and you were talking about the news, you know, the news being that over the weekend, a video was posted of a Tesla robotaxi in Austin, Texas without a safety driver on the streets, right?
00:29 Pras
Just with nothing no one inside driving around. Uh and then it was confirmed by uh Tesla’s head of AI that yes, they are doing this and then Musk even chimed in saying, you know, uh yes, we’re testing out uh car cars without the without the without the safety occupant or whatever you want to say it, in the car.
00:43 Pras
And that’s the next step towards fully unsupervised robo taxis. Like that’s the holy Grail what what Waymo is doing now, right? They’re already doing that now in certain select markets. So that’s the sort of the holy Grail there for Tesla.
00:54 Pras
And then we we saw some analyst commentary today by Dan Ives talking about how, you know, heading into 2026, this marks a monster year ahead for Tesla and Musk as the autonomous and robotics chapter begins. In our view, we expect an accelerated robotaxi launch across the US with importantly volume production of the Cyber cab, that’s the purpose built no pedals, no steering wheel car uh starting in April May time frame.
01:12 Pras
So all sort of good news there. Stock is sort of rallying at the right time. Uh a big move to like you said, I briefly touching uh an all-time high, I believe. Is that what you said? 52 week high at the at the very less at the very least. So that’s a big move there for Tesla today.
01:25 Speaker A
So, is it is it a big move, Pras? Because listen, I’m watching this. Let’s say I see this headline. Should I think of it, it’s a big move technically? Is it a big move because it’s just important they’re hitting these milestones? How do you frame it?
01:36 Pras
I think that’s that’s the right framing is the milestones. I think it’s, you know, 10 month sorry, in October of last year we saw the Cyber cab come out. People were saying, what is this thing? It looks sort of, it looks so space age. Is it going to is it going to be a pie in the sky type thing for Musk that he’s that he’s been known to do.
01:49 Pras
Well what happened is over the over the next year, you saw introduction of robotaxi service in in Austin, that went off uh seemingly okay, they expanded it. Uh now you saw they expanded to Bay Area and also they want to go to Nevada and Phoenix. and then just yesterday we saw the fact that there’s now the safety driver has been removed from the car. That’s what Musk was saying in a few weeks it would happen and then eventually it’ll be fully unsupervised robotex service.
02:07 Pras
So I think it’s a combination of they’re hitting their milestones, they’re they’re making it happen. And we’ve seen some other journalists talk about who have tested the new FSD and they say it’s it’s great. It made significant strides in making it smoother and and just more operationally better. So I think that’s what it’s a it’s a hitting milestones, moving the kind of the not moving the goal post but that which normally people say, but they’re actually just kind of heading in the right direction.
02:23 Speaker A
All right, Pras. Thank you, buddy. Appreciate it.
