Thailand-Cambodia War to end soon? Donald Trump makes BIG statement, says both countries agreed to…, threatens to cut trade deals with….
US President Donald Trump on Saturday announced that both the leaders from Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to meet immediately for ceasefire talks after three days of clashes
Washington: The ongoing conflict between Thailand and Cambodia is likely to end soon following the intervention of the United States. US President Donald Trump on Saturday announced that both the leaders from Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to meet immediately for ceasefire talks after three days of clashes, which claimed at least 31 people and left more than 130,000 displaced. Trump said he spoke separately with the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand. He warned both that if the conflict continues, the U.S. would not enter into trade agreements with either country.
Donald Trump Makes Big Announcement on Social Media
US President Donald Trump took to his social media handle, Truth Social, and wrote, “Both sides want an immediate ceasefire and peace.” He added that they have agreed to meet immediately and work towards a ceasefire and eventually lasting peace. He also mentioned that both nations want to return to the “negotiating table for trade talks.”
As part of the announcement of imposing broad tariffs on imports in the US, they are trying to reach separate agreements with several countries by August 1.
Threat of Not Making a Trade Deal
Donald Trump said, “Once everything is settled and peace is established, I look forward to finalizing my trade agreements with both countries.” However, it is important to note that the US president did not provide any detailed information about the ceasefire talks. Neither the White House nor the embassies of the concerned countries in Washington have given any information on this matter.
Thai Prime Minister Confirms
Thailand’s acting Prime Minister, Phumtham Wechayachai, thanked Trump and said, “Thailand is, in principle, agreeable to a ceasefire, but would like to see genuine intent from Cambodia.” Phumtham, in a Facebook post, stated that he had asked Donald Trump to inform the Cambodian side that Thailand wishes to hold a bilateral dialogue as soon as possible to bring forth measures and procedures for a ceasefire and a final peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Reminded me of India-Pakistan Conflict: Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump said the ongoing tensions between Cambodia and Thailand reminded him of the recent India-Pakistan conflict, as he urged both sides to cease all hostilities. He later announced that the leaders of the two Southeast Asian nations had agreed to meet immediately to negotiate a ceasefire.
“We happen to be, by coincidence, currently dealing on Trade with both Countries, but do not want to make any Deal, with either Country, if they are fighting — And I have told them so! The call with Thailand is being made momentarily,” Trump said.
“Many people are being killed in this War, but it very much reminds me of the Conflict between Pakistan and India, which was brought to a successful halt,” he added, after speaking with the Cambodian Prime Minister.
India debunks Trump’s ceasefire claim
India has debunked any link between tariffs imposed by the United States and discussions with that country over the May 10 cessation of hostilities with Pakistan. Responding to claims by the US government in a New York court, Delhi acknowledged talks with the US during Operation Sindoor – India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack – but said very clearly Trump’s tariffs were not part of those conversations.
