Trump Is Talking About Tariffs Again. It’s Weighing on the Stock Market.
The stock market rose every day for more than a week as President Donald Trump seemed to tone down his tariff rhetoric, so it should come as no surprise that an uptick in trade threats has led to a market pullback.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down about 400 points, or 1%, in Tuesday afternoon trading. The S&P 500 was down 0.8%. The Nasdaq Composite was down 1%.
The S&P and Dow were on track to fall for a second day in a row after rising for nine-straight trading days. The pullback began on Monday after Trump said he wanted to move forward on tariffs on movies produced outside the U.S.
