Trump is 'transitional figure' to reshape US economy: Oren Cass

WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump is a “transitional” figure in American politics, said Oren Cass, founder of conservative think tank American Compass, who contends that tariffs should be used to reshape markets to revitalize U.S. industry.

“The old policies weren’t working very well,” he told Nikkei in a recent interview. Cass, who considers himself part of a movement of “new conservatives,” is seen as a front-runner for a position in the next administration if a Republican wins the 2028 presidential election.
