Trump's Speech Follows Volatile Day on Wall Street

President Trump’s speech tonight will come on the heels of a volatile trading day on Wall Street, as U.S. stocks fell following Trump’s move to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 dropped more than 1.2%. The Nasdaq Composite finished the day down 0.4%, rebounding from lows earlier in the day. Shares in companies more exposed to tariffs, such as automakers and electronics retailers, experienced bigger selloffs. The VIX, an index that measures volatility, finished up 3.2%, after closing Monday at its highest level of the year.
