U.K. Stock Market Hits Key Milestone. Why It’s No Longer ‘Dull and Boring.’
The FTSE 100 stock index jumped above the 9,000 level for the first time Tuesday as the U.K. market continued its stellar year.
The index has climbed more than 10% in 2025, outperforming the S&P 500’s 6.6% gain. It has outperformed several other European indexes but still lags behind Germany’s DAX, which is up 22% so far this year.
The move above 9,000 “suggests the market is shaking off its unloved reputation and more investors like what’s on the menu,” AJ Bell investment analyst Dan Coatsworth said. “It should help convince overseas investors that the U.K. market isn’t dull and boring,” he added.
