U.S. stocks end higher as Dow logs record close
The Dow Jones Industrial Average logged a record close on Monday, as U.S. Treasury bonds saw their biggest rally in nearly four months after President-elect Donald Trump selected Scott Bessent as his nominee for Treasury secretary.
The Dow went up 440.06 points or 1% to end at 44,736.57, according to Dow Jones Market Data. It is the index’s 45th record close this year.
The S&P 500 rose 18.03 points or 0.3% to finish at 5.987.37 for its sixth straight daily gain. It is the index’s longest winning streak since Sept. 17, when the market rose for seven straight trading days.
The Nasdaq Composite gained 51.18 points or 0.3% to close at 19,054.84, for its third straight daily gain.
The Russell 2000 added 35.36 points or 1.5% to end at 2,442.03, for its sixth straight daily gain. It is the index’s longest winning streak since September 19, when the market rose for seven straight trading days.
