US Stock Market Live: Futures dip after strong start to June trading
This followed gains in the previous session, where the S&P 500 rose 0.41%, the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.67%, and the Dow added 35.41 points, or 0.08%.
Markets managed to close higher on Monday despite fresh tensions between the US and China. Beijing pushed back against former President Donald Trump’s claims that it had breached a temporary trade agreement, dimming earlier hopes that the two sides could reach a new deal. The development has raised concerns that talks may now face further setbacks.
In Europe, the EU criticised Trump’s proposal to double steel tariffs to 50%, arguing that the move could undermine ongoing trade discussions with Washington. The bloc warned that it is ready to introduce countermeasures in response.
