US Stock Market Today: After worst day in 2-1/2 months, S&P 500 set for muted opening on Tuesday? See what S&P 500, Dow futures signal

US Stock Market, Dow Jones Futures, S&P 500 Futures, Nasdaq Futures: Wall Street shares are set to make a lackluster start to the day on Tuesday, a day after the S&P 500—one of the two main US share market blue-chip benchmarks—logged its worst single-day fall in two-and-a-half months after US President Donald Trump announced the onset of 25 per cent tariffs on Canada and Mexico. Meanwhile, a slide in a monthly manufacturing PMI reading also hurt investors’ sentiments, while uncertainty surrounding the global trade situation continued to keep the bulls on their toes given the 47^th US President’s aggressive stance on the matter.

At 5:48 am Eastern Time (4:18 pm in India), Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were trading 30 points, or 0.1 per cent, lower at 43,217, while S&P 500 futures were down 2.3 points at 5,858.5 and Nasdaq Composite futures up 15 points, or 0.1 per cent, at 20,483.3.

At the end of Monday’s session, here’s where the three main US share market benchmarks stood:

• DJIA: down 649.7 points, or 1.5 per cent, at 43,191.2
• S&P 500: down 104.8 points, or 1.8 per cent, at 5,849.7
• Nasdaq: down 497.1 points, or 2.6 per cent, at 18,350.2
