US Stock Market Today: Dow Jones rises 25 pts, Nasdaq zooms past 17,650 as Tesla, NVIDIA aid relative recovery—Tech stocks stronger
US Stock Market Close (March 12), Dow Jones, S&P 500, Nasdaq: Wall Street blue-chip indices Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) and S&P 500 registered mild gains while the American technology stocks-heavy Nasdaq Composite jumped amid choppy trade on Wednesday. While a softer-than-expected consumer inflation reading supported investor sentiment somewhat, the overall mood remained rather cautious in the US share market amid back and forth with US President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs and retaliatory action by major trade partners of the world’s largest economy.
What supported the gains and what kept investors on the edge?
Buying interest in technology, communication services, consumer discretionary and energy shares aided the partial recovery, following the Dow’s 3.2 per cent fall in the past two days, but selling pressure in consumer staple and healthcare stocks limited the upside.
Uncertainty surrounding the 47th US President’s take on trade tariffs have kept investors on the back foot, also causing ripples across major markets elsewhere around the globe.
Among blue-chip stocks Tesla Inc was last seen trading 7.8 per cent higher at $248.5 apiece while NVIDIA Corp was up 6.4 per cent at $115.7 apiece.
