Why does Patrick Mahomes seek to invest in the WNBA?
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has invested his money in multiple sports franchises in Kansas City. The three-time Super Bowl winner has investments in Major League Baseball’s Royals and MLS’s Sporting. He also has a stake in the NWSL’s Kansas City Current, which could mean a new path to women’s basketball.
According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, the current ownership group is one of the contenders for hosting an expansion team in the WNBA, the United States’ professional women’s basketball league.
The WNBA just expanded with the addition of the Golden State Valkyries, and it looks like Caitlin Clark’s impact will allow for more franchises to be added. The league’s 13th team will begin play in the 2025 season, and the expansion draft to form the roster will take place on December 6 of this year.
Patrick Mahomes’ sports investments outside of Kansas City
Mahomes’ investments in sports matters do not stop at Kansas City.
The Chiefs quarterback has also invested part of his capital in the AlpineFormula 1 team.
Pickleball is also a growing sport, and the two-time NFL MVP opted for Miami Pickleball of the Major League.
