Top 10 New NISA Accumulation Rankings: 4 Are Tech/Semiconductor Focused. Thoughts from a First-Year Graduate Who Lost 90,000 Yen on Semiconductor Stocks
Hello, this is MoneyMuscle.
I was curious about what everyone is accumulating in their new NISA, so I checked the latest rankings from Rakuten Securities.
Seeing the results, I felt a bit startled.
Out of the top 10 in terms of accumulation settings, four were investment trusts concentrated in tech and semiconductors.
I lost 90,000 yen on semiconductor-related stocks this summer. That is exactly why I have broken down this ranking from the perspective of a first-year graduate.
Rakuten Securities NISA Accumulation Setting Top 10
This is the accumulation setting ranking for Rakuten Securities NISA accounts (Accumulation Investment Quota + Growth Investment Quota) compiled by ZAi Online. The aggregation period is the one week from September 28 to October 2, 2026.
-
1st Place: eMAXIS Slim All Country Equity (All Country)
-
2nd Place: Rakuten Plus NASDAQ-100 Index Fund
-
3rd Place: eMAXIS Slim US Equity (S&P 500)
-
4th Place: Rakuten Schwab US Dividend Equity Fund
-
5th Place: Rakuten US Technology Equity Concentrated Investment Index Fund
-
6th Place: iFreeNEXT FANG+ Index
-
7th Place: Rakuten Gold Fund (No Currency Hedge)
-
8th Place: Rakuten Plus All Country Equity Index Fund
-
9th Place: Rakuten Plus SOX Index Fund
-
10th Place: Rakuten Japan Dividend Equity Fund
1st place was, as expected, All Country. It is also 1st in the purchase amount and balance rankings, making it the top in all three categories.
Dividing the 10 funds into 5 types
If we divide these 10 funds by the type of investment destination, it looks like this.
-
All-Country Stocks: 2 (1st place, 8th place)
-
Total US Stocks: 1 (3rd place)
-
Tech/Semiconductor-Focused: 4 (2nd place, 5th place, 6th place, 9th place)
-
High-Dividend Stocks: 2 (4th place, 10th place)
-
Gold: 1 (7th place)
The most common category was tech/semiconductor-focused.
The NASDAQ-100 invests in 100 US tech-centric stocks, FANG+ in 10 stocks, and SOX in 30 semiconductor-related stocks. Compared to ‘All Country’ (eMAXIS Slim All Country), which diversifies across over 2,000 stocks worldwide, the investment targets are quite narrow.
What I think after losing 90,000 yen on semiconductors
I believe tech/semiconductor-focused funds are popular because they have seen high returns over the past few years.
If AI growth continues, they might keep growing.
However, this summer, I bought Socionext stock precisely because ‘AI semiconductors are growing,’ and I lost 90,000 yen.
What I painfully realized then is that the more momentum a theme has, the faster it falls when it turns.
Investment trusts are more diversified than individual stocks. Even so, products limited to 10 or 30 stocks do not change the nature of being prone to falling together when the same theme collapses.
How I, a first-year graduate, decided to structure my accumulation
Based on this analysis, I decided to structure my accumulation this way.
-
Make the foundation of accumulation an all-country stock index like ‘All Country’
-
If including tech/semiconductor-focused funds, keep them to a small portion of the total
-
Do not change accumulation targets just because ‘they have been going up recently’
While rankings show you ‘what everyone else is choosing,’ they don’t tell you ‘what is right for you.’
I felt that breaking down the reasons for popularity and the contents before choosing is the most important thing for me as a first-year graduate.
What are you all accumulating in your new NISA? If you are including tech-related funds, please let me know what percentage you are allocating to them.
Next time, I will compare All Country and S&P 500 under the condition of ‘a first-year graduate accumulating 30,000 yen per month for 20 years’.
