Micron Stock Alert: Cathie Wood Issues Stark Warning for Memory Chip Stocks

Cathie Wood sees a risk that could complicate the outlook for memory-chip investors: China’s growing manufacturing ambitions may make an already cyclical business harder to predict, even as artificial intelligence drives demand for advanced memory.
Speaking to investors in Hong Kong, the ARK Investment Management founder cautioned that adding suppliers to a market with tight capacity could intensify fluctuations in chip prices. Her concern centers on the potential for new competition to change industry economics before current demand pressures ease.
ChangXin Memory Technologies, a Chinese manufacturer backed by state support, is expanding its output of dynamic random-access memory. That could increase pressure on established producers SK Hynix (SKHY), Samsung Electronics (SSNLF) and Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU), which supply memory used in AI infrastructure. SK Hynix and Samsung shares have fallen 51% and 36%, respectively, from their highs this year.
Wood remains optimistic about AI’s broader economic potential, disputing Broadcom (AVGO) CEO Hock Tan’s view that investor enthusiasm has become speculative. Her ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK) has risen 14% in 2026, although her caution on memory makers highlights the difference between backing AI adoption and investing in every company supplying the technology.
