Some indicators aren’t well known or understood but can be highly effective when used by proficient traders. SKEW is one such indicator; it measures the perceived tail risk of the distribution of S&P 500 investment returns over a 30-day horizon.
Recently, I stumbled across a little-known New York investment manager, called Wall Street Access Asset Management. What intrigued me about their portfolio is that it holds about 25 positions, however 53.4% of the portfolio is concentrated in just the top 7 holdings.
Buying stocks is easy but when should you sell them? Today we’ll take a look at a specific example of precisely when to take profits, and move to the next best trading idea.

Rates are going up everywhere, at least that’s what the financial press would have you believe. On July 26, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell oversaw a rate hike that placed interest rates at 22 year highs, pegging them at 5.25-5.50%.
The market had largely priced in the rate hike and so the S&P 500 fell just 0.17% on the day.

Tesla reported record profits and production in the second quarter of 2023, but its stock price fell 11%. The company’s revenue increased 47% year-over-year to almost $25 billion, and delivered just shy of 900,000 vehicles. However, Tesla’s gross margin fell by almost 7% points from 25% in the previous quarter, due to price cuts.
