Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are the fastest growing investment product in the UK, according to a recent report.

BlackRock’s People & Money report shows a 57% increase in the number of adults invested in an ETF since 2022, with the increase largely driven by younger investors aged 18 to 34.

NEW YORK — U.S. stocks climbed Thursday after market superstar Nvidia and another round of companies said they’re making even fatter profits than expected.

The S&P 500 pulled 0.5% higher after flipping between gains and losses several times during the day. Banks, smaller companies and other areas of the stock market that tend to do best when the economy is strong helped lead the way,

Budget fears and unseasonably warm weather led to consumers spending far less than expected last month, according to official figures.

In a sign of a slowing economy, retail sales fell a sharp 0.7%, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

The fall was larger than expected. A drop of 0.3% was forecasted by economists polled by the Reuters news agency.

Some concerns have arisen in recent months that the fuel behind the AI fire is starting to wane. The flagship AI stock, NVIDIA, gained 156% through the first six months of the year, but Nvidia shares only gained 18.8% since the midpoint of 2024. While that is still substantial growth, it reflects investors’ concerns about AI’s ability to generate substantial revenue.
