Forecasts for next year’s Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) have edged lower, with the average retiree now projected to receive around $70 more a month in benefits in 2027, according to experts.The AARP on Wednesday revised its forecast to a 3.5% increase in payments for retirees, slightly down on last month’s previous estimate of 3.6%.AARP’s projection puts the average monthly Social Security benefit for a retiree at $2,086 in July,

Social Security beneficiaries are facing a looming deadline that could result in significant cuts to their monthly payments.

The latest projections from the Social Security Board of Trustees show the reserves of the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund are set to run out in the fourth quarter of 2032.

As China deepens the commercialisation of its vast troves of data, the United States needs to develop its own national data strategy that treats data as an economic asset to better position itself to prevail in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics, a key US congressional advisory body has said.
