Oil prices have spent most of the past month hovering above $100 a barrel. The big driver, of course, has been the Iran war, which has sent crude, gas, and diesel prices soaring.
For equity investors, the obvious trade might be to buy energy stocks, which often benefit from higher oil prices. Energy is the best-performing S&P 500 (^GSPC -1.09%) sector year-to-date with a gain of more than 50%.

The Federal Reserve may hold interest rates steady in October, with markets putting the odds of a hike at just 15%. But rising inflation and higher oil prices could push it to raise rates again in December.
As a result, markets now see an 89% chance of a 25-basis-point December hike, which would lift the Fed’s benchmark rate to 4.00%–4.25%.

The latest inflation adjustment for Social Security recipients could push the highest earners into six-figure territory.
The 2027 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security benefits will be 3.6%, which, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA), will mean an average increase of $75 a month for those receiving Social Security retirement benefits.
