MADISON, Wis. — Dane County Sheriff’s Office detectives were able to return over $4,000 in cryptocurrency to a scam victim this week, a spokesperson said Thursday.

Detectives worked with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation on the case.

According to the sheriff’s office spokesperson, the victim had clicked on a link in what they thought was a legitimate website to pay for a streaming service.

Wall Street indices opened declined on Thursday as escalating tensions in West Asia dampened investor sentiment and uncertainty loomed over the latest trade agreement between the United States and China. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI) dropped 128.4 points, or 0.30%, to 42,737.36 at the opening bell.

Stocks fell at the open Thursday as investors reacted to renewed trade tensions after President Donald Trump threatened to impose unilateral tariffs on key U.S. trading partners.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 230 points, or 0.54%, to 42,634.95 after the bell. The S&P 500 slid 0.28%, while the Nasdaq dipped 0.24%.
