-
Tim Cook warned of “a 100-year flood on the memory pricing,” with costs expected to keep rising beyond the September quarter.

The $1,999 foldable iPhone Duo sold out pre-orders within minutes, with December-quarter consensus already at $153.44 billion in revenue.
I’m watching Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) ahead of its fiscal fourth-quarter results, due Nov. 2 after the close. Shares are up 26.65% this year and the market cap stands near $5.07 trillion. This report tests whether record demand can outrun rising costs.
Record Demand Meets a Memory Cost Squeeze
Last quarter, revenue rose 16.4% to $109.42 billion. EPS of $2.02 exceeded the $1.89 consensus, Apple’s ninth straight EPS beat. iPhone revenue climbed 22% to $54.3 billion on iPhone 17 demand. Shares still fell 7.35% on earnings day.
That quarter included a one-time boost. Tariff refunds added roughly two percentage points to gross margin and $0.11 to EPS. For the September quarter, management guided revenue growth of 9% to 11% and gross margin of 47% to 48%, including about one percentage point from refunds.
On what he said was his final earnings call, Tim Cook warned that memory costs would climb again. He described “a 100-year flood on the memory pricing” and said supply constraints on advanced chip nodes would tighten sharply from the June quarter.

Three Reasons This Report Could Swing Either Way
Margins Without the Tariff Cushion
On the July call, CFO Kevan Parekh said memory costs explained more than 100% of the sequential change in adjusted gross margin. Whether gross margin holds the guided range and what management signals for December will be worth watching, since Cook expects memory prices to keep rising beyond September.
iPhone Duo Sets Up the Holiday Quarter
Apple guided mid-teens iPhone growth for September, with Mac and iPad also supply constrained. The $1,999 foldable iPhone Duo reached store shelves this month after online pre-orders sold out within minutes. December-quarter consensus is already at $2.8977 in EPS on $153.44 billion in revenue. How incoming CEO John Ternus, who management said would lead future calls, considers supply against that demand will be a key focus.
Siri AI Costs Versus Services Monetization
Services grew 12% to $30.7 billion, though mobile gaming moderated. Management said the full compute cost of Siri AI remains unclear and pointed to higher iCloud+ levels as one offset. Regulatory work is still holding up Siri AI’s launch in the European Union and China.
A $5 Trillion Valuation Leaves Little Room for Error
Apple trades at about 40 times trailing earnings and 35 times forward estimates. It has beaten estimates for 10 straight quarters, yet shares have averaged a 1.16% decline the day after those beats. Options traders lean conservative, with a put/call ratio of 1.83 on the Nov. 4 expiration. Steady margins and confident holiday guidance could support a rally. Another memory warning on top of rising AI spending would put that premium multiple under pressure.
