As Warren Buffett steps down as Berkshire Hathaway's chair, here's a look at his Texas business ties
Under the leadership of legendary investor Warren Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway left footprints all over Texas.
The $1 trillion conglomerate announced Friday that Buffet is stepping down from his role as chairman after more than six decades and his son, Howard Buffett, will immediately replace him. Warren Buffett was named chairman emeritus.
Although Buffett, 96, is known as the “Oracle of Omaha,” he has also spent years investing in the Lone Star State, with companies from Justin Industries to NetJets.
Big Texas moves
Through Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett has been investing in companies and stocks with strong ties to Texas for decades.

In 2000, Berkshire Hathaway purchased Fort-Worth based Justin Industries, which includes Justin Boots and Acme Brick.

In 2000, the conglomerate’s company FlightSafety International opened a training center in Dallas.

In 2007, Berkshire Hathaway purchased Fort-Worth based electronic components distributor TTI, Inc.

In 2010, the conglomerate purchased Fort Worth-based freight railroad leader BNSF Railway.

In 2014, Houston-based LiquidPower Speciality Products, which is a leader in commercial drag-reducing products, was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway.

By 2024, Berkshire Hathaway fully owned Pilot Travel Centers. The company is based in Knoxville, Tenn., but has 119 truck stops and travel centers in Texas, according to its website.

In 2026, Berkshire Hathaway completed its purchase of Addison-based based chemical producer OxyChem in a cash deal that was valued at around $9.5 million. OxyChem was previously a part of Houston-based energy giant Occidental.

In September, The Dallas Morning News reported Berkshire Hathaway-owned private jet company NetJets is planning a brand new campus near Dallas Love Field, according to city permit filings and filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Among Berkshire Hathaway’s other well-known purchases was the Nebraska Furniture Mart in 1983, which has a beloved location in The Colony.
Under Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway has also invested significantly in airline stocks with Texas ties such as Southwest Airlines Co., American Airlines Group Inc. and United Continental Holdings.
Buffett’s advice
Buffett has a massive following that cherished his words of wisdom on investing and life’s challenges alike.
They looked forward to his annual letters and Berkshire Hathaway’s crowded annual meetings in Omaha, Neb.
“Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful,” Buffett once said about buying stocks and companies that were priced at less than he thought they were worth.
