Berkshire Hathaway new CEO leads first meeting since replacing Warren Buffett
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – For the first time, new Berkshire Hathaway’s Greg Abel addressed stakeholders as CEO Saturday.
He stepped into the role at the start of the year with Warren Buffett’s retirement.
About a year ago, longtime Berkshire Hathaway CEO, Warren Buffett shocked shareholders with his official retirement; its a day many shareholders will never forget.
“It is interesting to see an end to an era like that just knowing that for as long as most people remember he has been the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway,” said Nebraska resident Noah Loux.
“I was in the overflow room and it was incredibly understated he just said hey this is my last time up here,” said James Pan of Washington D.C. “You always remember where you were because it was a historic moment.”
While Buffett was at Saturday’s meeting, chiming in several times, even watching his jersey be retired. It was clear Greg Abel is now head of the Berkshire table.
The first year CEO addressed shareholders for the first time. Giving investors a chance to hear about the companies future and ring in the official start of the Abel era.
“I do not know what they have in store exactly, but I think it going to a lot of the same which is fine, nothing wrong with that,” said Tom Schumm of Kansas. “Then we will see what new ideas they got.”
“I think he’s built an organization that is very sound, very resourceful. New management will do well, I am quite sure,” explained Bob Schumm of Kansas.
With a cash pile of almost $400 billion, shareholders are interested to see just where their money is invested.
“The A.I. thing is out there think they will be cautious where they go, for the right reasons but they will put their toes in the pool,” said Amy Densmore of Michigan.
“Knowing that Berkshire Hathaway is spending a lot of money into the tech sector right now which is where a lot of money is,” said Noah Loux. “Just seeing that come to fruition just looking at stock prices and stuff.”
While we won’t know the companies future just yet, optimism is high as the legacy continues under a new face.
Sunday is the official end to the shareholders event. Brooks is hosting its “invest in yourself 5k” which kicks off at 8 a.m.
