Dow Jones closes 170 points up, extends gains for 6th straight session
US stocks closed on a mixed note on May 8, with the yield on 10-year Treasury bonds rising for the first time in six sessions, amid weak demand at the Treasury bond auction.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 172 points, or 0.45%, closing at 39,056 points, extending its gains for the sixth-consecutive session. The index posted the longest winning streak since mid-December 2023.
The S&P 500 index was flat at 5,187. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 29 points, or 0.2%, to end at 16,302.
Elsewhere, the STOXX Europe 600 Index rose 0.35% to 515.7 points, closing at a record close high for the second time this month.
FTSE 100 closed at a record level for the fourth time in May, gaining 0.5% to end at 8,354 points. Germany’s DAX 40 Index edged up 0.35% to 18,498 points. The CAC 40 Index closed 0.7% up at 8,131 points.
The Nikkei 225 closed 0.16%, or 632 points, down at 38,202 points. TOPIX also shed 1.45% to 2,706 points.
