Fans fume as Travis Kelce’s retirement plans may have been revealed by NFL legend
Could 2026 be it for Travis Kelce?
Not long after his July 3 wedding with Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce was seen on Instagram with former Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter, who may have revealed 2026 will be Kelce’s final NFL season.
“Know the goat is preparing for THE LAST DANCE. Next stop Canton/HOF,” Carter wrote.
In addition to Carter, Kelce appeared to be training with his longtime coach Andrew Spruill, who began training with the tight end before his rookie year in 2013.
Carter’s post caused quite the stir, with some fans criticizing him for potentially announcing Kelce’s retirement.
“Can Travis be allowed to announce his own retirement, please? Everything about him makes headlines. Are you saying this for attention? He’s always said he doesn’t want a farewell tour or the focus to be on him during the season. Travis has earned the right to announce himself when he sees fit,” one fan wrote.
“Why would you think you should announce that for @killatrav he’s on a 2 year contract and hasn’t announced a damn thing. Let the athlete handle their own announcements,” another wrote.
Retirement rumors swirled regarding Kelce after the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014 last season, but Kelce signed a one-year deal to return in March.
Even in a dysfunctional offense after Patrick Mahomes’ torn ACL last year, Kelce still posted 851 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Over 13 years with the Chiefs, Kelce has become one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history with 13,002 receiving yards and 82 touchdowns.
He had seven straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2016-22, and won three Super Bowls between 2019-24.
In one of the most high-profile weddings ever, Kelce and Swift officially tied the knot three weeks ago in an event featuring numerous sports guests.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford were just a few of the names there.
