Is the stock market closed on Labor Day? Here's the 2026 schedule

On Monday, Sept. 7, Americans across the country will celebrate Labor Day at the end of a long weekend. The day commemorates the labor movement in the U.S. and the many contributions of the nation’s workers, but if you plan to do any domestic stock trading, you may want to do that Friday.

Labor Day is a federal holiday, and federal, state, and local government offices will be closed. So will the post office, banks… and the stock market.

Here’s what to know about the holiday schedule and when the markets will reopen.

Is the stock market closed on Labor Day? When will it reopen?

The New York Stock Exchange will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for observance of the Labor Day holiday.

The NYSE will reopen for trading at normal hours, 9:30 a.m. ET to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

NYSE American Equities, NYSE Arca Equities, NYSE National, and NYSE Texas late trading sessions will also be closed.

Is Nasdaq closed for Labor Day?

Nasdaq is also closed on Monday and will reopen at normal trading hours on Monday.

Is the U.S. bond market closed on Labor Day?

The U.S. bond market will be closed Monday, according to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. It will reopen on Tuesday.

Will over-the-counter trading be closed for Labor Day?

Over-the-counter trading, which is done without an exchange, will be closed Monday, Sept. 7.

United States stock market 2026 holiday schedule

U.S. stock markets will be closed on these days in the rest of 2026:

• Monday, Sept. 7: Markets closed for Labor Day

• Thursday, Nov. 26: Markets closed for Thanksgiving

• Friday, Nov. 27: Markets close at 1 p.m. ET the Friday after Thanksgiving

• Thursday, Dec. 24: Markets close at 1 p.m. for Christmas Eve

• Friday, Dec. 25: Markets closed for Christmas Day

Are international markets open on Labor Day?

Independence Day, July 4, is a uniquely American holiday. The London Stock Exchange, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and the Tokyo Stock Exchange will be open for normal trading hours.

EuroNext trading will be open, but there will be no after-hours trading in Milan on Monday and Tuesday.
