July 2026 Social Security payment schedule: Here’s when your check arrives
Millions of Americans depend on Social Security payments to cover essential expenses each month, but when that payment comes through isn’t the same for everyone.
Payment dates depend on two things — when you first started collecting benefits and your birthday.
According to the SSA’s 2026 benefit payment calendar, for most recipients, payments follow a staggered Wednesday schedule.
How payment dates are determined
The Social Security Administration disburses payments to two groups — retired workers who receive Social Security benefits and individuals living with disabilities, who receive Supplemental Security Income benefits.

For Social Security benefit payments, SSA divides recipients into three groups based on birthday:
-
Born between the 1st–10th: paid on the second Wednesday of the month
-
Born between the 11th–20th: paid on the third Wednesday
-
Born between the 21st–31st: paid on the fourth Wednesday

When that date falls on a weekend or holiday, payments move earlier — which can mean no payment one month and two the next.
In July, SSI recipients receive their regular payment on July 1.
They’ll also see the August payment land on July 31, since Aug. 1 falls on a Saturday.
