Punta Cana – TripAdvisor awards DR as the fourth best destination for honeymoon tourism worldwide and first in the Caribbean.
The Ministry of Tourism announced that it would invest US$20 million in constructing a higher technical education institute in Punta Cana with the support of Grupo Punta Cana and other hotel chains. The aim is to strengthen the human capital of the eastern region of the DR, which receives more than 4.5 million tourists each year, more than 50 percent of the country’s total.
Tourism Minister David Collado said the institute will be built this year near the Punta Cana International Airport. Grupo Punta Cana has already donated the land; other hotel chains will contribute economically. He said this would allow human capital to be competitive and educated about sustainability and innovations in the gastronomy and hospitality sector.
He expressed that they will work in alliance with a European school and are conversing about determining which one.
He indicated that the idea is that foreign professors will participate, and with a public-private alliance, it will be the only one of its kind in the country and the Caribbean region.
In another order, Collado informed that they signed an agreement with the Ministry of Education to incorporate tourism subjects into the school curriculum.
Collado spoke during the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) 2024, where TripAdvisor, the leading international online travel platform, awarded the Dominican Republic the fourth-best destination for honeymoon tourism in the world and the first in the Caribbean.
The president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores), David Llibre, highlighted that this 24th edition of Date, the largest tourism marketing event in the Caribbean region, has more than 800 participants from 300 buyers and suppliers, which has allowed the scheduling of more than 8,000 business appointments between Thursday and Friday.
He emphasized that the Date is a marketing and promotion strategy that allows the tourism offer to remain in force and brings buyers and sellers of global tourism closer together.
