Carney, in line with other Canadian officials, has vehemently pushed back against the idea, stressing that Canada is “not for sale.” In June, after Trump revived talk of his ambitions to annex Canada, Ontario Premier Doug Ford simply stated “Canada will never be the 51st state.”
